People use various search engines to look up relevant information on the internet. There are hundreds directories that store and link websites across the entire internet and when people look up these search directories for relevant content, they display only those that are listed in them.
You may want to have your website listed in these internet directories. The Open Directory Project (http://www.dmoz.org) is regarded as the most vital database and directory of all the internet contents. And many of the most successful and popular search engines work with the data from the Open Directory Project. Among a few are Google, Yahoo!, AOL.
All the major internet search directories are listed here. They are further linked to the Free submit section. You need to fill in some information like your email (for confirmation of the submission process), your website’s name and URL. Some even ask for a description and keywords, but that is not necessary. The website directory database program should be able to pick up your website’s description, keywords and other pertinent information from the website when it is crawled.
Most of the internet search database directories would ask you to locate a suitable category for your website. This is necessary for correct indexing and your website could be rejected if put in the wrong category. This is also important for anyone who is looking up websites in a particular category.
Also note that individual websites will have their own time for reviews and inclusions in their internet directory. While most of them have a period of 3 - 6 weeks before your Free Submission is reviewed and put into their internet directory. Many of these directories also have an expiration date, beyond which old websites are eliminated from the directory, so you may need to resubmit your websites again. A period of 3 months is a good time to resubmit your websites to most of these internet search directories.
